Bio

Dr. Herman Hedriana is the division director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Department of OB/GYN at UC Davis Health with an appointment of Professor of Clinical OB/GYN. He joined the faculty in 1994 and was the Director of Perinatal Research until 1998. He is also the Chief of Obstetrics at UC Davis Medical Center. 

Dr. Hedriana is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist offering consultative care for women with various medical and genetic conditions that may affect their planned or current pregnancy. With over 20 years of private and academic practice as well as biotechnological experience, he has various clinical interests and expertise including: prenatal screening, perinatal safety initiatives, prenatal diagnosis (including amniocentesis), fetal ultrasound, multiple gestation, and management of labor.

Dr. Hedriana's research focus is on quality improvement, improving process while ensuring maternal-fetal safety, prenatal screening using non-invasive technology and labor management improvement. He is also interested in outreach perinatal services using telemedicine.

  • Where did you grow up?
  • The Philippines, in a sugar manufacturing town named Victorias, on the island of Negros (Negros Occidental province).
  • What drew you to this field?
  • While in residency training at Columbia University, I was drawn to Maternal Fetal Medicine after an obstetric ultrasound rotation.
  • Where are you happiest at work?
  • Teaching and discussing obstetric trivia; acknowledging gaps in our obstetric knowledge.
  • Where are you happiest outside of work? (e.g. with family, playing sports, reading) 
  • Happiest when cooking, tasting new food and wine, watching action movies, and getting a spa treatment.
  • What is something your colleagues/students generally don’t know about you?
  • That I grew up in a sugar manufacturing company community in one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia more than 6000 miles where I am now.
