Bio

Dr. Brittany Chambers is a community health scientist dedicated to advancing sexual and reproductive health equity among Black, Indigenous, and Other People Of Color’s (BIPOC). She merges critical and public health theories to partner with BIPOC women and birthing people and organizations to better understand, operationalize and dismantle racism.

Dr. Chamber's research interests focus on applying a reproductive justice framework to understanding clinical and societal factors underpinning sexual and reproductive health adversities experienced by marginalized populations. Her research portfolio includes investigations of the impact of societal factors (e.g., structural racism) on adverse birth outcomes experienced by women of color, and qualitative research methods to explore both Black women and prenatal care clinicians’ perceptions of care provided to Black women and their health outcomes. Other research projects have focused on the relationship between experiences of individual- and school-level discrimination and prejudice on delinquency scores among Black and White students; the intersection between nativity and insurance status on Mexican women’s birth outcomes; how structural and policy factors, relationships with HIV care systems, and individuals’ personal characteristics create barriers and facilitators to care linkages and engagement among HIV-positive persons; and evaluation of adolescent sexual health and teen pregnancy programs.
